The Coastal Quilters Guild of Northeast (NE) Florida is a guild of 80+ members and we are located in Neptune Beach, Florida. The Guild was established in 1987 with 40 Charter Members, 13 of them are still active in the Guild today.
Our members come from all over the greater Northeastern part of Florida including: Neptune Beach, Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, and Fernandina Beach. We are a very diverse group of seamstresses and quilters with skills ranging from beginners to award winning quilters.
Our monthly meeting takes place on the first Thursday of the month at the Neptune Beach Senior Activity Center. These meetings start at 6:30 PM and usually end by 9:00 PM. Business matters are generally discussed during the first part of the meeting and our regular monthly meeting activities conclude the ending part of the meeting. We always have scrumptious baked goods and refreshments during the intermission. Not only do we have talented quilters, we also have some wonderful bakers and chefs.
Sometimes it is hard to get to know other Guild Members during our monthly meetings due to a great deal of activity and a scheduled agenda. So we have a weekly Sit & Sew Session at the Neptune Beach Senior Activity Center.
Our members bring their sewing machines and projects they are working on, whether they are hand projects or machine projects. Many of our members bring their knitting, tatting, or crochet work. There are plenty of tables, electrical outlets, irons, and ironing boards to accommodate all attendees. Our Sit & Sew Sessions are a place to get to know each other in a less formal setting to share our talents and knowledge with each other.
Our Sit & Sew Sessions start at 9:00AM and usually end around 2:00 PM. in addition, a lot of our members bring their lunches and we enjoy catching up with each other over lunch. Some of us enjoy going out to local restaurants for lunch.
Our Guild is also a member of QuiltFest, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida. This is an organization supported by local Guilds whose purpose is to stage an annual Quilt Show and to promote the art of quilting. It is a judged show where money awards, as well as ribbons, are presented. Each of the Member Guilds has a booth at the show where their “Opportunity Quilt” can be displayed and $1.00 chances for that quilt are sold. Our QuiltFest Opportunity Quilt is made by our members.
One of our greatest talents as a Guild is to assist in the support of our community. In the past, the Guild has made quilts for Hubbard House, the Jacksonville Rescue Mission, and the nursing home facilities of Vicar’s Landing and the Avanti Villas. We have made quilts for Hospice and the Crisis Pregnancy Center at the Beaches and in Mandarin.
Currently, we are making quilts for Quilts of Valor, Beaches Baptist Comfort Care Team, Project Linus, Hospice Grief Camp, Pedscare, Hartfelt, and Hospice. In addition, we are also collecting non-perishable items and toiletries to be contributed to the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM).
